November 3, PM – The Guangzhou Municipal Government held a Press Conference concerning the Torch Relay of the 16^th Asian Games in Guangzhou. Yang Xinlai, the Deputy Director of the Torch Relay Operation Centre made a statement about the Torch Relay in Guangzhou on behalf of the Asian Games Torch Relay Operation Center and Asian Games Torch Relay (Guangzhou) Organizing Committee.

According to Yang, main parts of the torch relay schedule for Guangzhou are: kick off ceremony to welcome 16^th Asian Games flame & pass the flame to 12 districts, county-level cities in the morning of November 5 at the square in front of the Municipal Government Building. The relay from November 6-8 will be held in the 12 districts, county-level cities of Guangzhou Municipal. The torch relay for Guangzhou begins in the morning of November 9 in a ceremony held at the South Square of Zhongshan Memorial Hall. After the ceremony, Asian Games flame relay starts the first time in Guangzhou urban area, The route: Zhongshan Memorial Hall (launch ceremony) – North Gate, Zhongshan Memorial Hall – Yuexiu Park (Baibuti – Zhenghai Road – Five Goats Sculpture – Panfu Road) – Jiefang Road – Haizhu Square – Haizhu Bridge – Nanhua East Road – Binjiang Road- Yuejiang Road – Guangzhou International Convention & Exhibition Center (closing ceremony). 208 torchbearers will join this leg of relay. 83 (officials, torchbearers, athletes) from 45 participating Asian countries/regions will join the kick off of 16^th Asian Games Torch Relay (Guangzhou Dafushan) held in the morning of November 10. Torch relay will be hosted in Guangzhou University Town in the morning of November 11. The route: from the Science Center of Guangzhou University Town, follow the outer ring road in clockwise direction and back to the Science Center of Guangzhou University Town. Closing ceremony of 16^th Asian Games Torch Relay will be held after the relay.

There are 610 torchbearers altogether, including 16 from 12 county-level cities respectively. 208 torchbearers on the November 9 for the Guangzhou downtown relay, 83 torchbearers on November 10 for the relay in Dafushan, 127 torchbearers on the November 11 for the relay in Guangzhou University Town. It is said that the oldest torchbearer is 93 years old, and the youngest is only 6.
