The Chinese Foundation for Lifeline Express has recently presented the 2013 "Brightness Contribution Prize" to ICBC for its consistent support and exceptional achievement in poverty alleviation and cure for the blind over the recent years. Since it started to make more efforts in charity initiative in 2007, ICBC has provided subsidy to nearly 6,000 underprivileged cataract patients in Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Henan and Shanxi to receive sight-restoring surgery.
Since 2007, ICBC has donated RMB 14.10 million to charity initiatives for the blind living in impoverished areas. In 2013 alone, ICBC donated via Lifeline Express to 1,094 poor cataract patients living in Shanxi's Lvliang mountainous areas to receive free surgery to recover their eyesight. The Eye Microsurgery Training Center in Inner Mongolia’s Hohhot and Cataract Treatment Center in Yunnan’s Chuxiong, both sponsored by ICBC to improve the local eye health-care facilities and treatment, are also running smoothly, which has effectively helped improve medical facility and bring light to more patients.
Founded in 1997, "Lifeline Express" is the first mobile eye-train hospital in China dedicated to provide free treatment to eye patients. As of today, it has four eye-train hospitals, 15 "Microsurgical Eye Training Centers'" and 38 "Chinese Lifeline Express Cataract Treatment Centers".
