Recently, ICBC Credit Card service achieved stellar performance, winning an assembly of Awards given by Bank Card Associations in China and overseas, including: "2005 Distinguished UnionPay Card Cross-banking Transaction", "Advanced Implementation of Technology Standard of UnionPay Service Specification in 2005" and "Contribution to Transaction Quality in the Nationwide Bank Card 'Cross-banking Transaction Quality Month' event in 2005" granted by China UnionPay, "2005 Best Product Innovation -- ICBC EMV Project", "2005 Best Technology Innovation -- EMV Standard Peony International Credit Card" and "2005 Best Co-brand Card -- Peony-PetroChina Card" awarded by MasterCard International, "2005 EMV Acquiring Breakthrough" awarded by Visa International and "2005 Global Network Service Marketing Award" granted by American Express.
In 2005, ICBC took numerous innovative endeavors to underscore the determination to live up to the service mission of "Everything for Cardholder". ICBC was the pioneer in completing the revamp of other bank's receipt acquiring system for EMV migration and issued domestic first EMV Credit Card. Further, ICBC cooperated with PetroChina Company Limited to launch Peony-PetroChina Card, a nationwide co-brand card that issued for the first time jointly between an oil company and a bank to the public. Other new services include Auto-repayment, Card activation through Telephone Banking, Online Shopping using Peony International Credit Card, Auto-repay in local and foreign currency, Auto-repay by buying foreign currency using RMB and Short Message Reminder Services provide for various credit card holders.
ICBC issued a total of 1.939 million new credit cards in 2005, amongst which 140,000 new credit cards issued are Peony Express Card, 350,000 cards more or 22% increased compared to the same period of last year. Cumulative spending of credit card stood at RMB 69.35 billion, RMB 15.17 billion more than that of the same period of the previous year or a 28% increase. Average spending per card was RMB 9,311, RMB 1,236 higher on a year-to-year basis or a rise of 15.3%. Ratio of bad overdraft in credit card was merely 2.7%, 0.3% lower compared to the same period of last year. ICBC asset quality was still in the best quality among the peers in China.
