Corporate social responsibility is at the heart of ICBC in the immediate aftermath of the Qinghai earthquake in Yushu county, ICBC spares no effort to ensure financial services for the earthquake relief while donation in kind and money are poured in to help the victims to get over the difficulty, to rebuild their homes. ICBC and staff have donated RMB 25.412 million as of April 26. ICBC Qinghai Branch also donated cotton-wadded quilts and foodstuffs worth RMB 500 000 to the disastrous areas. Currently the call for donation for earthquake relief is still in progress at all the domestic and overseas ICBC subsidiaries, and among the staff.　

On the day when the earthquake broke out, ICBC required all branches and subsidiaries to be ready to receive relief money and donations from the society. At present, all ICBC outlets can accept charitable donations from all, with green set up in some outlets. To facilitate people in showing their charity, ICBC reserves the most eye-catching location at the portal for the donations. ICBC ensures the opening of "Donations" on Internet Banking and Mobile Banking 24 hours a day to receive donations. All donations are exempted from banking charges. Those who want to donate just click "Donations" and choose one charity organization to continue. ICBC is the account opening bank of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, China Charity Federation and Red Cross Society of China. In this regard, ICBC pulls out all the stops to receive donations on their behalf. It's now a race against the clock, ICBC makes sure staff and devices are enough in place to handle the donations and the donations are credited into the beneficiary account in the first instant.

Meanwhile, ICBC starts the emergency plan for the financial services in need in the earthquake areas including cash delivery, cash holdings management, funds transfer, opening of temporary account and disbursement of emergency cash. In particular the rescue army who has accounts opened in ICBC. ICBC informs their financial persons the phone numbers of the ICBC contacts and counter staff. They can call ICBC staff anytime whenever cash is required for the relief work.

In the next phase, detail plan will be drawn to support the rebuilt of earthquake-devastated areas. ICBC has laid down clear credit policy. Affected individuals and enterprises who cannot repay as scheduled will not be pressed for repayment, no penalty interest, no bad record. They can get relief loans as usual. ICBC is taking all sources of information to know more about the amount of money required for the relief. Focus will be on the industries participating in emergency rescues and reconstruction work as electricity, communication, highways, airport and hospital. Loans are released in the first priority for enterprises to repair equipment damaged by the earthquake and recover production. Green are opened to shorten the steps and time involved in the approval process so that loans are released in time for the purpose.
