On the afternoon of June 9, 2015, Mr. Jiang Jianqing, Chairman of ICBC signed the Soyo Power Plant Financing Agreement with Mr. Manuel, Financial Minister of Angola at the Great Hall of the People under the witness of President Xi Jinping and Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos. According to the agreement, ICBC will lend USD 840 million to Angola to finance the construction of Soyo Power Plant.
Angola is one of the fastest growing economies in Africa and has become the third largest economy and the largest foreign investment destination in Sub-Saharan Africa. The development of Angola's economy increased its demand for projects in respect of energy, electric power, people's livelihood and infrastructure construction. Take the electric power industry as an example. The total installed capacity of Angola is 2 million KW. The installed capacity of the Soyo Power Plant project supported by ICBC is 750,000 KW, accounting for one third of the total capacity and the project will significantly alleviate the country's power shortage upon completion.
ICBC has provided comprehensive financial services for Chinese companies going global and the implementation of the "One Belt and One Road" strategy in recent years. The investment in reserve projects of "One Belt and One Road" strategy alone is nearly USD 200 billion. Africa has always been a focus of ICBC's "Going Global" strategy andthe business scope of the Bank has covered nearly 20 countries in the region.
