On the afternoon of June 23, witnessed by President Xi Jinping and King Philip of Belgium, ICBC Chairman Jiang Jianqing and Nicolas Saverys, CEO of Exmar signed a FLNG export buyer’s credit agreement worth USD 200 million in the Great Hall of the People. According to the agreement, ICBC will provide EXMAR with export buyer’s credit for the world’s first FLNG ordered from a Chinese enterprise. It is so far the biggest export project with the highest technical level from China to Belgium.
Belgium is China’s fifth largest trading partner in the EU. However, China used to export mainly steel, toys and other low-end industrial products to Belgium. The platform ordered by Exmar is the world’s first FLNG installation, and the new generation of high-end marine engineering installation which integrates production, processing, liquefaction, and storage of natural gas, and will be used for the oil and gas development of Pacific Rubiales Energy, the second largest oil and gas company in Colombia. Exmar, one of the subordinate enterprises to Saverys family, Belgium’s largest shipping family, specializes in logistics, storage and transportation of the liquefied gas.
