ICBC Ranks First in Top 1000 World Banks 2015
 

ICBC, with its tier 1 capital of USD 248.608 billion, ranks first for the third consecutive year in Top 1000 World Banks 2015 published by The Banker, a British magazine, on June 30, 2015.

A total of 117 Chinese banks are included in Top 1000 World Banks ranking 2015, representing an increase of seven compared with a year ago, and 16 Chinese banks rank among top 100, an increase of one, according to the data released by The Banker. Among them, the top 10 world banks in terms of tier 1 capital in 2015, consisting of four Chinese, four American, one British and one Japanese, remain unchanged as in 2014. By the growth of tier 1 capital, however, all the four Chinese banks in top 10 increase by more than 15%, and ICBC even reaches around 20%, much faster than the other six American, British and Japanese banks, of which HSBC Holdings plc and Japan's Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, ranking ninth and tenth respectively, decline in tier 1 capital compared to the same period of last year.

Tier 1 capital of a commercial bank is both an important indicator to comprehensively measure business development and risk tolerance, and a significant guarantee for sustainable development, according to the report. With four banks in The Banker's top 10 world banks ranking, Chinese banking sector demonstrates a solid momentum of Chinese banks in elevating capital strength, improving asset quality, and enhancing development potentials in recent years.
