6 Speeding Up the Company Transformation to Increase Overall Competitive Advantage
A two-day seminar on ICBC's work of the year 2008 was held on Jan. 1 and 2, 2008 in Beijing. Mr. Jiang Jianqing, chairman of the board, made a keynote speech and Mr. Yang Kaisheng, president of ICBC, gave an important work report on operation situation of the bank in 2007 and announced the plan for 2008. Mr. Jiang Jianqing and Ms. Wang Lili, vice president of ICBC, spoke in the following international banking business meeting. The followings are the abstracts of the meeting minutes and CUF reporters interviewed Mr. Yand Kaisheng and Ms. Wang Lili on their further insights.

With railways stuck and power facilities destroyed, the 50-years ever worst snow falls hit south and south-west of China. It has caused severe influence on industry, agriculture and people's lives. During this critical period, Chinese authorities have taken quick actions to resolve the crisis. People from all industries have joined the battle against snowstorm. 41 The key Issue of Tight Monetary Policy Is Tight Credit
It was made clear in central economic work conference in late 2007 that the economic policy for 2008 is tight monetary policy. The key issue of this policy is credit control. Details include: enhancing the motive of window instruction for tight credit, transforming ways from gross control to structural adjustment by strengthening the alliance of policies, speeding up currency withdrawal by using quantitative tools like open market operation, controlling growth of credit and stabilizing inflation with timely price tools like interest rate, speeding up reform for RMB exchange rate forming mechanism to reinforce the exchange rate flexibility and its cooperation with interest rate.
