Chinese Shares Close Higher Wednesday - Sept. 26
 

Chinese stocks closed higher Wednesday with the liquor-making sector leading the gains.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed 0.92 percent higher at 2,806.81 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.8 percent higher at 8,420.54 points.

Combined turnover at the two bourses stood at 310.37 billion yuan (about 45.14 billion U.S. dollars), up from 242 billion yuan the previous trading day.

The liquor-making sector rose the most on Wednesday, with the sub-index up 3.51 percent. Sichuan Swellfun Co., Ltd. gained 7.42 percent to close at 41.13 yuan per share.

Food and medical equipment sectors also showed strong performance, with the sub-indices up 1.89 percent and 1.67 percent respectively.

Bucking the upward trend, sectors including printing and packaging, non-ferrous metal and environmental protection declined.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.06 percent to close at 1,420.75 points.
