Tokyo stocks advanced Monday morning as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar encouraged investors to go after export-related shares.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 122.09 points, or 0.65 percent, from Friday to 18,786.72.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 8.23 points, or 0.55 percent, at 1,498.00.
Nonferrous metal, iron and steel, and machinery issues comprised the morning's issued that advance the most.
