Tokyo Stocks Open Higher as Yen's Retreat Lifts Exporters-April 10

Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar lifted the market mood and sent exporter issues higher.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time here, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 160.68 points, or 0.86 percent, from Friday to 18,825.31.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 12.06 points, or 0.81 percent, at 1,501.83.

Insurance, service and land transportation issues comprised issues that notably advanced into positive territory in early play.
