Tokyo Stocks Opens Mixed on Bargain Hunting, Caution Amid Political Uncertainty-March 23
 

Tokyo stocks opening mixed Thursday with thrifty market players seeking out bargains, while others hit the sidelines amid political uncertainty here involving a controversial school operator buying cheap land from the government and implicating the prime minister in an illicit donation scandal.

As markets opened here, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 21.30 points, or 0.11 percent, from Wednesday to 19,062.68.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 0.06 points at 1,530.14.

Notable issues that advanced into positive territory after the morning bell comprised securities, marine transportation, and glass and ceramics product-linked stocks.
