Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as the market mood was brightened by Wall Street building on a solid rebound overnight, while the resumption of U.S.-China trade talks helped ease market jitters.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 174.82 points, or 0.87 percent, from Monday, in the opening minutes after the morning bell, to 20,213.79.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 8.11 points, or 0.54 percent, at 1,520.64.
Precision instrument, marine transportation and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised notable early gainers.
