ICBC Announces a Framework for Corporate Culture
 

On June 13th, 2010, ICBC announced a framework for corporate culture and distributed the ICBC Corporate Culture Handbook. Industry insiders said, this move marks a new stage of ICBC in building corporate culture which is significant for ICBC to become a world-class modern financial institution.

ICBC's new framework for corporate culture covered the Bank's mission, vision, values, basic philosophy, codes of conduct and others. According to this framework, ICBC will strive to fulfill its mission of "excellent financial services" with an aim to "serve our customers, maximize return to shareholders, give staff full pay to their talents, contribute to the society" and to demonstrate the values of "excels in integrity and quality services to achieve long-term ambitions" in a new stage of company growth. The codes of conduct for the organization include "operations, management, innovation, development"; the codes of conduct for employees include "ethics, diligence, services, delivery, collaboration, learning". ICBC holds up to the future to be "a world-class financial firm of most profitable, most outstanding, most admired".

As the core and essence of its corporate culture, the ICBC values of "excels in integrity and quality services to achieve long-term ambitions" encompass five basic dimensions: "integrity, employee-centric, stable growth, innovation, and excellence". They are for many years, the epitome of ICBC's corporate spirit, cultural cognition, organization performance and cores values. "Integrity", which means "loyalty, honesty and having faith", is the standard of ethics required for employees to provide quality services to the society, and constitutes a solemn promise to the general public. "Ambition", which means "long-term goals and far-sighted vision", demonstrates ICBC's spirit of continued innovation and the positioning of becoming the leader in the financial sector. Based on the five core values, ICBC develops an extended system covering "development, efficiency, risk, service, brand, team building, learning, and talents".

The Chairman of ICBC Jiang Jianqing said, the reform of ICBC was accompanied by the process of the corporate culture building, evolution, enriching and perfection. The Bank boasted a rich corporate culture heritage riding through waves of reform sweeping through the market, cultivated outstanding entrepreneurship and business philosophy, and formed its unique cultural genes. The corporate culture of ICBC, the total sum of the values and innovation of ICBC through the years, helped drive the reform of ICBC at various stages and build a good corporate image. In the future, ICBC will make every endeavor to build a unique and modern corporate culture to guide its employees' values and best practices, which will lead to a new stage of development and innovation and add impetus to the strategic transformation and long-term growth. The new framework for corporate culture will render support to facilitate a balanced progress among customers, employees, shareholders, the community and ICBC, build a better-quality work force, improve core competencies and grow into a world leading modern financial organization.

For many years of steady development under its distinct corporate culture and commitment, ICBC has been growing into the world No.1 commercial bank with the largest capitalization, highest profits, best brand value and largest customer deposits. It is now recognized as a responsible large bank in supporting the social and economic development, environmental and natural resources protection, and in sponsoring charity causes. In the new stage, ICBC has to focus on building a successful corporate culture before seeking a full embrace of scientific concept of development for gathering pace in business re-orientation and sharpening core competitiveness. To achieve this, the Bank set up the Corporate Culture Committee to proactively take measures in cultivating the corporate spirit, formulating pioneering ideas, building a good corporate image and a better work force. The Committee carried out the agenda and saw remarkable results to "consolidate, improve and innovate". In recent years, ICBC introduced a new education program each year tailored to the action plan at different stages and the employees' progress. ICBC took good performers as the examples and created the best-performing units as one vehicle to build the corporate culture. Since 2008, ICBC presented awards to the "Best Touching ICBC" Staff every year, which identified outstanding performers among all ICBC employees. All ICBC staffs are encouraged to learn from the winners and fight to become the best, a corporate spirit that ICBC wishes to foster.
