Construction of Guangzhou Asian Games Venues Progresses Smoothly
 

As we learned from a press conference held recently, the construction of Guangzhou Asian Games venues are progressing smoothly. The newly-built and renovated venues will be completed at the end of 2009 and transferred in March 2010 for trial operation.

The 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games will use 70 venues, including 12 new facilities and 58 renovated facilities. The layout of the venues will form five major clusters, distributed in each districts of Guangzhou and 3 co-host cities.

Director of Venues and Equipment Department of Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee Peng Gaofeng introduced the latest development of the Asian Games venue construction.

Up to date, among the 12 newly-built venues, the construction of totally 10 new venues have been started, including Guangdong Olympic Natatorium, Guangdong Olympic Tennis Center, Guangzhou Asian Games City Gymnasium, Guangzhou Cycling Roller Skating & Extreme Sports Center, Guangzhou Skeet & Trapshooting Training Center, Guangzhou Sport University Gymnasium, Nansha Gymnasium, Huadu New Gymnasium, Huangpu Sports Center Gymnasium, and Haizhu Gymnasium.   The rest two venues are at the construction tendering or detailed design stages.

Among the 58 renovated venues, the renovation of Guangzhou Gymnasium and the Triathlon Venue have been completed; renovation construction has started in Tianhe Stadium, Tianhe Gymnasium and Guangzhou Equestrian Venue; and the renovation projects for the rest venues have also entered the construction tendering or design stage as planned.
