Gold prices dipped on Tuesday as news on a hawkish candidate as the next head of the U.S. Federal Reserve drove the dollar index up, while strong share markets and a calmer geopolitical environment sapped safe-haven demand. The yellow metal closed down 0.42 percent to $1,276.33 an ounce. Silver fell 0.62 percent at $16.94 an ounce.
