The civil engineering projects related to the rest of the 20 stations except Zhuhai Station of the Guangzhou-Zhuhai light rail transit were opened for tender yesterday. The start of construction of the 20 stations is scheduled on April 1. The plan for the 5 stations passing Shunde is ready. The entire 20 stations should be completed before July 31 next year.

Shunde section has been completed 60% as of now

The 115.625km main line starts from New Guangzhou Station and ends at Gongbei Port, Zhuhai via Shunde District of Foshan and Zhongshan. The 26.328km branch line extends from Xiaolan Town in Zhongshan to Xinhui District of Jiangmen via the Xijiang River, Guzhen of Zhongshan and Waihai of Jiangmen. The 36km Foshan line runs through Foshan City with 5 Stations: Bijiang, Beijiao, Shunde, Shunde University and Ronggui. As of today, the engineering and investment for Shunde section went over 60% and is due to complete in the year.

Apart from the 5 stations in Shunde section, another 16 stations on the main line: Nantou, Xiaolan, Dongshen, Shiqi, Zhongshan, Cuiheng, Jinding, Jintang, Mingzhu, Qianshan, Zhuhai. Also 5 stations in Zhongshan branch line: Guzhen, Jianghai, Jiangmen, Lile, Xinhui. According to the spokesperson of Pearl River Delta Intercity Transit Company Limited, the entire line of 20 stations except Zhuhai Station and the facilities will be included in 2 tenders and officially opened to tender yesterday.

The tender includes the construction of elevated stations, interior and exterior renovation and construction of other engineering houses, as well as electricity, lighting, heating, fire services, lightning protection, water supply and drainage, environmental protection and green engineering. Concerned departments are working on the walls, roads, drainage pipes of the stations and station buildings, installation of construction equipment for the station surface, rain cover and station post. The waiting rooms and platform of the 20 stations are basically elevated. The ground is for passengers to change rail line and cars.

Guangzhou-Zhuhai Light Rail set for Asian Games

According to the spokesperson, construction of Guangzhou-Zhuhai light rail and stations should be completed before July 31 next year and set to open for public in November 2010 to cope with the opening of Guangzhou Asian Games. By that time travel between Shunde Station and New Guangzhou Station will be cut down to 15 minutes, and 60 minutes to Zhuhai or Jiangmen. 

Meanwhile, the new Guangzhou Terminal, once completed, will serve for the passengers travelling between Wuhan and Guangzhou, between Guangzhou, Shenzhen and HK, between Guangzhou and Zhuhai, and transit passengers between Guizhou-Guangzhou or Nanning-Guangzhou. Passengers will go straight to new Guangzhou Terminal via Guangzhou-Zhuhai light rail.
