127 Asian Games Messengers Came to Tibet to Invite Friends to Guangzhou Asian Games

"Reach out our hands, to pass the warmth from our hearts. Because of love, we come together. We are surrounded by friends... " Recently, at the Potala Palace Square in Lhasa, a messenger group composed of 127 Asian Games volunteers and the people of all ethnic groups in Tibet sang the song of the Guangzhou Young Volunteers "Come Along" in a high spirit.

In the next few days, this Asian Games messenger group will carry out a series of promotional campaigns in the highland cities of Lhasa, Nyingchi, Xigaze, and the Potala Palace and other sacred sites of Tibetan Buddhism for the 16th Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou in 2010.

According to the accompanying staff of Asian Games Organizing Committee, among the 127 messengers, the youngest one is only 9 years old and the eldest is already 70 years old; a quarter of the members are students. Taking the "Qinghai-Tibet High Road Special Train for Asian Games Volunteer Messengers", they started out from Guangzhou, the "south gate" of the country, passed through 6 provinces, traveled 6,920 kilometers and arrived in Lhasa.

Revisit the torch lighting place of the Beijing Asian Games 19 years ago - Tanggula Pass - is a major agenda of this trip to Tibet. The Tanggula Pass is the natural border between Qinghai and Tibet and also the point of highest elevation on the Qinghai-Tibet railway, known as "the forbidden zone to life". In 1990, the Tibetan girl Dawa Yangdzom lighted the torch for the Beijing Asian Games there.

The Secretary of Guangzhou Youth League and Director of Volunteer Department of Asian Games Organizing Committee Wang Huanqing said, "19 years after the last Asian Games, the volunteer messengers of the Guangzhou Asian Games coming back to the Tanggula Pass to pray for the Asian Games is an inheritance of the Asian Games spirit. It is of unparalleled significance."

As we learned, these 127 Asian Games volunteer messengers will also go to Nyingtri of Tibet, a region Guangdong Province is providing partner assistance to. They will visit the fifth batch of cadres from Guangdong who are providing aid in Tibet, passing the greetings from their hometown people. Meanwhile, they will send out an Invitation to Guangzhou Asian Games, inviting them to come back to hometown in 2010 to participate in and support the Asian Games and collecting their blessings to Guangzhou Asian Games.
