Asian Games Venues Ready for Event, Rich Legacies for the People after the Games
 

August 2 – At the press conference held today, Executive Deputy Secretary General Xu Ruisheng of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC) made the remark that Asian Games venues are in the final stage with the testing and installation of equipment. 48 operation teams for all competition venues are making the preparation. After the Games, all venues will be turned to daily exercising and leisure places for the local residents. The Asian Games Town Gymnasium will be able to host basketball, volleyball and badminton matches as well as exhibitions and concert, the Zengcheng Dragon Boat Lake will be opened to the public as a park.

GAGOC's Executive Deputy Secretary General Xu Ruisheng said that functions of the organizing committee's departments will be shifted from event organizing to monitoring and operation of the venues. 48 operation teams for all competition venues are making the preparation. Asian Games venues are in the final stage with the testing and installation of equipment.

Mr. Xu noted that The Guangzhou Asian Games will leave rich legacies and benefit for local residents in various aspects. The Asian Games Town will become a new residential area and the launch zone of the Guangzhou New Town - a major project for the city's southward expansion. The post-Games use of the venues reflects lasting benefits for the people: venues in the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Centre will greatly enhance the universities' infrastructure for physical education; the Zengcheng Dragon Boat Lake will be opened to the public as a park; the Guangzhou Equestrian Venue in Conghua will be used as a training base of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Venues for gymnastics competition during the Guangzhou Asian Games will be slightly refurbished after the Games for holding basketball, volleyball and badminton matches, or exhibitions or concerts.

Meanwhile, after careful planning and construction, accessible Guangzhou is a modern city ready for the Asian Para Games.
